Customize the spiritual gifts assessment for your church
February 13, 2025 · Pro tier · 5 min read
Your church may not use every spiritual gift the New Testament names. Some churches lean cessationist, some charismatic, some in between. Which is why on the Pro tier you can customize the spiritual gifts assessment for your church at yourteam.church. Every gift toggles on or off in a single click.
The twenty-four gifts we ship with
We start you with the twenty-four gifts most commonly used across the churches we serve. Every one has a description written for the modern church, not translated from a 1980s seminary handout. You get the full list on your dashboard under Settings, then Gifts.
You do not have to use all of them. You do not have to use any particular subset. You just toggle the ones you want your volunteers to see.
Why toggling matters
Two reasons. First, the assessment gets shorter for your volunteers every time you toggle a gift off. Fewer questions means higher completion rates. Second, every team match uses only the gifts your church cares about. That means placement conversations line up with the language your leaders already use.
You are not fighting the tool. The tool matches your theology.
Common toggling patterns
Cessationist churches typically turn off tongues, interpretation, and prophecy. Charismatic churches leave every gift on. Some churches drop celibacy because it is not a placement-relevant gift for their volunteer base. Some drop martyrdom for the same reason.
There is no right answer. You know your church. The toggles let your assessment match how you actually teach and place people.

Every team match reason is generated using only the gifts you have toggled on. If you turn off healing, healing never shows up as a reason on any match. If you keep it on, it shows up whenever a volunteer scores highly on it and it fits a team.
This is the same layer that powers AI church volunteer matching elsewhere in the product. The AI does not know what your church believes. It just reads your settings. So the settings matter.
What the results look like after customization
Every volunteer's results page shows only the gifts your church uses. The top three still get headline treatment. The rest sit below. The Personal Portrait references those top three by name.
If you turn on more gifts later, existing volunteers keep their results. New volunteers get scored on the fuller set. Nothing breaks, and no historical data gets rewritten.
Where custom gifts fit with everything else
Customized gifts stack with custom team profiles and your pastor dashboard search. Together, they mean every assessment result at your church is shaped by choices your pastoral team made, not defaults we imposed.
For volunteers, the effect is subtle but real. The results feel like they came from your church, not from an outside tool. That is what gets people to actually keep the PDF and reference it later.
A note on the twenty-four number
Twenty-four is not a canonical list. It is the union of the gifts most modern churches use. We can add more if a church needs one that is missing. Ask us and we will add it to the shared list for your church. We take those requests seriously and act on them fast.
The goal is a spiritual gifts inventory that feels like your church wrote it. That is the standard.
