How to customize ministry team profiles with AI

February 10, 2025 · Pro tier · 5 min read

Every church has teams that do not fit a template. A hospitality team that also runs the coffee bar. A Spanish-language service prayer team. A production team that only handles the mid-week service. This post is about how to customize ministry team profiles with AI on yourteam.church so those teams actually get real matches.

The Teams page in one screen

Log into your dashboard, click Teams. You see every team your church offers, each one with a name, a description, and a personality profile. Click any team and it opens for editing. That is the whole interface.

We ship you with twelve defaults so you are not staring at an empty page. Every default is fully editable. Nothing is locked.

Rename any team in one field

If you call Kids Ministry Ignite Kids, edit the name. If your production team goes by Production, or Tech, or Media, whatever you call it, that is what shows up on your assessment results and in your dashboard.

This is more important than it sounds. When a volunteer sees their team match named the way your church actually names it, the placement conversation feels like it is already inside your ministry. Read more on the volunteer side in what volunteers see in a church volunteer assessment.

Rewrite team descriptions in your voice

Every team has a description that is used two ways. The volunteer sees it on the results page under the team match. The AI reads it when it writes the fit explanation. So if you write a description that is warm, specific, and pastoral, the AI mirrors that language back in every match.

You can also click Polish with AI. That takes your description and cleans up the grammar without changing the meaning or the voice. Use it if you have a rough draft and no time to edit.

Suggest a Profile: the AI trick that runs the page

When you add a brand new team, you do not have to figure out which DISC blend and gifts fit it. Click Suggest a Profile. The AI reads the team name and description you wrote and drafts a personality profile for that team. You can tune it with sliders after.

This is the piece that makes custom teams work as well as defaults. You get a profile that is a solid first read, and you edit if you want. No spreadsheet, no consultant, no guesswork. This is also how AI church volunteer matching scores volunteers against your custom teams the moment you save.

Sliders for the personality mix

Under every team, four sliders control the DISC weighting and a gifts panel controls which spiritual gifts are most important for that team. Move the D slider up if a team really needs leaders. Turn on the gift of hospitality if a team really needs it.

You are not writing code. You are moving sliders. Save, and the next batch of assessment results uses the new profile.

Adding a brand new team from scratch

Click Add Team. Name it. Write a description. Click Suggest a Profile. Adjust the sliders if you want. Save. Done. That team is now part of every future assessment result, and every existing volunteer in your church gets scored against it automatically.

Church planters love this piece because their teams keep evolving in year one. See the planters page for how this fits the launch-team workflow.

What happens when you edit an existing team

Existing volunteers keep their old results (nothing changes on their end). New assessments use the new profile. If you want to re-score every existing volunteer against the updated team, click Re-run Matching on the team page. That regenerates matches for everyone.

Most pastors do this once a year, usually before a fall relaunch. It is one click, and it usually surfaces at least a couple of surprising placements.
